They say the eyes are the windows to one's soul. What do you see in mine that has you running away?

After life: There are two places that the soul goes after death. The Astral Plane and the Dark Thorn Abyss. Not knowing what else to call it, those who have managed to cheat death and get a glimpse of these places have given those places their respective names.
Astral Plane: this place has been described as a place where everything exists, and yet nothing exists. There is a solid “floor”. The floor seemingly being very shallow water that reflects the space around it. As you walk, it ripples, which seem to travel out forever. Tricking the mind into thinking one is walking in an infinite cosmos. There are others there too, and there is always a sense of calm. Based on what the individual wants, the landscape changes. Faintly, one feels like they are back home. Just relaxing in another normal day. Others will be stuck in an intimate darkness, but will have no fear of it. Chasing prey, napping, or just being. It's a place where everything exists, yet nothing exists.
Dark thorn abyss: it is what could be described as a hell. The place is dark and hard to see. The floor is hot and the air stings the eyes. Those who find themselves here are constantly fighting with ghosts of their pasts. Dying and waking and dying and waking until it drives one mad.
These two places seemed to be linked in some way however. On some occasions, one who was in the Astral plane would be dragged down by red thorns, and one who has “redeemed” the self will be awoken in the Astral Plane. None knows why, but it can be assumed that the place senses the change in the souls and does with them how it sees fit.
