Mother and father finally let us take a break! Little MoonSong bounds after her brothers and sisters through the fresh fallen snow. The pus yipped, whimpered and growled as they were finally allowed to behave like pups and wrestle. No training. No history lessons. Just play! Their mother watched them from where her and her mate laid beneath a tree. Her mate twitching in his sleep. He has been having horrid nightmares recently. She licks his head and lays hers over his own.
MoonSong had breaked from the pile of furs that rolled and wrestled each other and walked to a close by ponds bank and drank some water. As she drank, her reflection flickered to something else and she jumped back surprised. Darius came up beside her after seeing his sister spooked and looked down at the water. Their reflections stared back. Moon worldly glances at Darius and slowly reaches down to touch her nose with her doppelgangers.
She shoots back up with a gasp, and then a coughing fit as her nostrils and mouth were onslaught by an array of awful stenches. Beside her she can hear Darius coughing too. As the fit subsides she notices that they are no longer with their family, nor are they standing on fresh snow. Instead, the two of them were alone surrounded by dark rotting trees and plants. The floor they stood on was covered in decomposing leaves. Various types of fungi littered the ground as well as the trees and logs. The forest was dark with an eerie fog creeping in.
"Mom? Dad?" Moonsong calls out uncertain. Her only response was her echo. Darius' fur stand on edge and he growls at every little shift of movement, which in it self was strange as there were no signs of other creatures. He steps closer to his litter mate. Both for comfort and to protect her.
Opposite to her kin, MoonSong was feeling strangely calm, though the unease was slowly creeping up her skin as the wretched stench of death was becoming stronger. Then a feminine voice echoes through the darkness.
"Are you lost....little ones?" The smooth voice asks in a sweet manner that set off the red flags for Moon. An intense sense of dread washes over her, and judging by the way Darius leans into her, he felt it too. Neither pups answered the voice. They felt as if their souls would be consumed should they mutter a word in response.
They didn't have to answer though because soon enough, the owner of the disembodied voice saunters into view. A gaunt female wolf with deep, dark forest green coat with patches of missing flesh exposing bones and muscles all over her body. Thick black tar-like fluids oozed from the wounds. She saunters toward the ice wolf pups and stops about 2 feet away and her eyes glide over the two. She grins when she spots the scars on MoonSongs chest, and the scar on Darius' back.
"Ahh~ so you are the offerings from the West!" She says in recognition. Her sickenly sweet voice twists a knot in Moonsongs stomach and she wants to throw up as she leans closer to her brother; her ears falling back as an uneasy growl rips from her throat. The zombie looking wolf clicks her touch before she spoke, "Aw, you poor little things~" she purrs as she sees something on the pups that they cannot. "One to be possessed by the thunder serpents," she directs toward MoonSong, "and the other to be consumed by the Solar Eclipses darkness." She whispers at Darius. "The question is...which one of you will be mine!" Her voice drops in octaves which sends a frightened snarl from moon and her brother.
"Reine! Darius! Come it's time to go babies!" Their mother calls. The two pups blink. They were standing by the ponds edge. It had began to snow."Reine! Darius!" She calls again.
Darius is first to move. Turning around and happily trotting toward his parents. "Coming mother!"
MoonSong shakes the snowflakes from her coat and turns from the water to follow her brother, the reason for being there being completely forgotten. Her walk turns to a run as she races Darius to their mother with happy yells.
However, locked in the water two reflections stared back at nothing. They were older versions of the two cubs, their faces locked in torment as lightning in the form of serpents coiled around the white wolf's neck, and the red one was consumed in shadows.
