Aelin was sitting quietly in the sand. Far south from the land she grew up in. She had shadow traveled here before dawn and had been sitting here since. It was the 5 month anniversary of Highland’s death and despite her hatred for the desert, she felt the need to visit this place. She found this spot quite easily, despite the miles and miles of sand in every direction looking purely identical, she knew exactly where she was.
Kanza had been following her trail for quite some time. He finds himself in this damn desert for the second time this month. He felt as if he’s been going in circles, Aelin’s scent having disappeared randomly far north of here. So, he had been retracing his steps. Repeatedly.

Kanza has been on the metaphorical road for months. He was hungry, tired, sweaty, and he smelled like a dead rabbit. He also hated the desert with a fiery passion. He wasn’t even sure what he was doing out here a second time. But he had a mission. A mission he would not fail to- He stopped his train of thought as an all too familiar scent hit his nose. Aelin. It was about damn time. He quickened his pace until his eyes picked up a tiny white speck in the distance. He was running now, sand flying behind his feet. His heart wanted him to accept it was really her, that he found his best friend. However his head had a different opinion. What were the odds he found her way out here? In the absolute middle of nowhere.
She was sitting in the sand with her back to him. However he was growing more positive by the second it was her. He jumped and tackled her to the ground, tail wagging wildly. “Aelin!” He yipped in excitement

Aelin, having been too engrossed in her own thoughts, failed to notice the other white wolf approaching her. She yelped in surprise at the feeling of being knocked over and pinned before she quickly swept her lower half to the side, attempting to knock the “attacker” off her and into a position to pin him. During her confusion she failed to notice the male saying her name and she was just now beginning to realize this wolf was familiar. “K-Kanza?” She questioned, clearly confused.

Kanza made an "Oof" sound as he was knocked from his paws and pinned. This failed to put a damper on his now happy mood though. He had finally found her. Months of searching finished at last. He smiled again, tail wagging still. "Yes Aelin its me." he answered, still shocked. "W- where have you been? I've been trying to find you for months!" he then studied her for a moment, attempting to scan her for injuries.

Aelin backed off him quickly, shaking as her smile faded. “W-why were you looking for me? You should have stayed with Oliver! He needed you. You should’ve stayed...” she accuses, growing angry with him.

He watches her for a moment as his expression grows concerned. Oliver's fine Aelin. Exodus didn't hurt him. He was the one that helped me figure out a game plan. I would come find you and he would watch after the pack, at least until I got back with you so that he and I could get rid of that monster once and for all. Until then, I know that Olly is very capable enough to lay low and stay out of trouble. Exodus didn't know we were Kijian's brothers so he had no reason to single him out unless he gave him one. Relax Aelin, its alright. We can go home now..." As he explained, he tried to understand why she seemed so very upset. His brother was alright, right?

Aelin sighs, shaking her head. “No. No he isn’t alright. He- he died Kanza. Exodus killed him.” She lowers her ears, looking away, “And then I killed Exodus.”

His eyes widen like saucers. "What do you mean Olly's dead? H-how.. He cant be..." he shakes his head in disbelief. "You went back? Why the hell would you go back? He could've hurt you again. And I get why you'd want to kill the bastard but.. you're not a killer Aelin.." he steps toward her, concerned and hurt. Its then that he realizes something and his eyes widen even more. "Where are the puppies? You should've had them by now, right? Exodus didn't..." he thinks for a moment and dismissed the notion. You had them... didn't you?"

“Exodus killed him after I went back. It’s all my fault and I’m sorry. But I had to go back. I felt it in my bones Kanza. But I’m so so sorry.” She lowers her ears in shame. “And I wasn’t going to let him hurt me again. No way in hell. And after what he did.. to kijian... to me... Olly...” she inhaled, “He came after me and Olly tried to protect me. He couldn’t... But I’ve gotten stronger since I left. I faught him and won this time.” She explains, ashamed and avoiding eye contact.

Kanza nodded, tilting his head down so she can look at him and see his lips. "Aelin its gonna be ok. And it wasn't your fault, I understand." he pauses, "but you didn't answer my question Aelin... Where are your pups?" he asks as his tone grows more worried by the word.

She gives a sigh, nodding and lowering her ears again. “Pup. And yes I had him. His name was highland.” She gives a deep sigh, closing her eyes for a moment. “And he’s here.” She says quietly, eyes on a small, almost unnoticeable circle of rocks in the sand where her pup was buried. The poor excuse for a grave barley visible due to the amount of sand that had blown over them in the past few months.

Kanza immediately lowers his own ears, following her sad gaze to the little formation of rocks in the sand. “Oh Aelin..” he trailed off, knowing she couldn’t hear him as her eyes were on those rocks. So, he simply gave her a gentle nuzzle, letting her know he was there.

She sighs, shaking her head and turning to face him. “It’ll be dark soon. We should get going. That is if you wanna come home with me? Its a beautiful place where just about everyone is always kind. And I’m sure Ursüs wouldn’t mind.” She rambles, nervously, hoping her old friend would say yes.

Kanza tried not to get whiplash from the sudden topic change, however he understood. "Yes Aelin that sounds wonderful." he paused "But... I've been looking for you for months and your scent sent me in circles. Where exactly IS "home"?" his eyes darkened slightly, kind of upset that she didn't find their home "home" anymore. "And who the hell is Ursus?" he questions with curiosity

Aelin smiled at his agreement to come back to Frosa with her, giving a chuckle at his questions. “It’s in a very... different place. I’ll show you. And you’ll like ursus. Like I said, just about everyone there is kind.” She then puts her paws around his neck like she’s hugging him and promptly shadows the both of them to Frosa, both landing in a heap in the snow.
