The Dead Woods, a name given from superstition and superstition alone. It's a lively place, if not a touch cold. A storm rages here, on and on for hours on end. A deep rumble is heard, and one would think thunder were it not for the ground shaking and the sounds of rocks grinding and tumbling down the Peak of Pestilence, a place avoided like the plague for the unaccountable growls and whispers that find their way into the core of your mind. It is here where our stories begin. Jackie

Jackie twitched her ears hearing something ahead. Her paws slowly pressed down avoiding making any sounds as she sniffed and followed the scent. She was fairly sure that it was another wolf, male at that. Her ears perked as she spotted something ahead

Up ahead would be the scattered remains of part of the peak of the mountain, an exposed cavern, and a dark and mangled corpse of a large wolf. In the dark of the new moon, a snarl is heard as the shadows coagulate and swirl around the mangled body. Two dark blue eyes glow within the umbra as the legs suddenly start to right themselves with sickening wet pops and clearly audible grinding, followed by the rest of the body. Once the body is whole and intact once more, he stretches and says to himself in a deep rumbling tone “Ah! Free at long last! And a new moon on the same night, how fortuitous.” His stomach roars and churns, beckoning him down the mountain in search of food.

Jackie looked dumbfounded at what she had just saw. She knew of magic but not any like that. With a blank expression and on ear off to the side and shook her coat and regained her wits. Hearing the wolf’s stomach she figured he was going to eat and that meant she could possibly snag a bite. “I’m no scavenger” she thought to herself annoyed. “Especially from anything like that...” she flattened her ears. “Desperate times call for desperate measures” she thought again as she picked up her pase slightly to keep even with the wolf’s. As he stepped she stepped avoiding extra sounds. Jackie stayed a good deal behind in case she was spotted and had to run.

As Ursus travels down the mountain side he notes to himself aloud “A water way? I don’t remember this being here... Mmm I bet food lingers near then.” And vears to the side, towards the water flowing down from the mountain into a small lake. He drinks briefly along the way before continuing down. Out of the corner of his eye he spots a print, as he goes over and inspects it he finds it belongs to a bear. Ursus grumbles “Ugh. Damn it. I’m in the mood for deer or elk, I wouldn’t say no to a goat either... But I suppose at this point I’d eat just about anything.” Suddenly. Nearby a yelp and a roar is heard. Ursus perks up for a moment before booting off after the sounds of distress, albeit none too quick but as fast as he can go. Upon arriving at the scene, an average sized black bear has a mother white fox backed up with her young but walking pups behind her. Ursus’s eyes flare as blue magical energies coalesce and cling to them. His body is wreathed in what appears as black smoke as his claws bite into the ground. A wall of ice blasts up out of the ground, cracking the bear in the jaw and sepperating the foxes from harms way. Ursus barrels forwards and tackles the bear as he’s roughly the same size, and as he bites down upon its head, zapping is heard and burnt flesh reaches the nostrils. The bears writhing knocks Ursus off but he scrambles to his feet and squares off for the bears next move.

Jackie licked her lips and sat down near by waiting to snag a bite of the bear once the male had finished it. Her tail lowly brushed back and forth while she waited.

The bear lunges, though clumsily from being in a bit of a daze. Ursus side steps and swipes at it’s throat, and as the bear gurgles and writhes, he pounces upon it and bites it’s neck, severing the brain stem. As soon as the bear goes limp he digs into its back. If one were to look close enough they would see Ursus isn’t much more than skin and bone, appearing to have been heavily starved. As he begins to eat, his form finishes regenerating. When he’s had his fill, he calls down the ice wall and tosses the foxes some of the meat and gestures for them to leave. Ursus the washes the blood off in the snow and takes a deep contented breath and smiles as he looks out into the distance.

Jackie slowly laid down after shifting her ears as she figured she might have to wait a little. She looked about as well before resting her head on her paws and getting prepared to possibly wait or run

As Ursus looks out, he sees glimpses of what appears to be a wolf stalking in the shawdows, with a light sigh and a chuckle he rips the bears front legs and shoulders off and tosses them down the hill, not quite in its direction so as to be able to not threaten her. He the retreats a ways and beds into a stone ledge with his back partially to the wolf, but his glowing eyes can still be made out in the darkness peering out calm yet alert.
(Jackie gave me permission to notice her character despite her stealth being on par or higher than the senses of Ursus and that’s why this is not power playing, otherwise it would be.)

Jackie stood as he tossed the flesh and left. Her ears perked up as she looked to the bear and slowly went towards it. She sniffed it up and down before actually biting in. She didn’t fill herself as she looked back towards the wolf.

Ursus slowly turns back around and says softly with a faint smile “Don’t worry I won’t bite. You find me in a good mood, and I know all too well what it’s like to go hungry, or what hard times are like. Eat as much as you like. They call me Ursüs by the way.” He proceeds to yawn and remains in his place.

“I see.. Oh well. Anyways, do you know your way around here? If not, you should know there was a safe den area to the East if here that is protected by mountains on all sides. It’s a tough trip, but if you intend to stay here a while, that is your best bet. From what I recall there were occasionally monsters here. Both made by man and of nature. If you don’t know the way, you’re welcome to follow me. It’s been many long moons since I’ve had company so speaking again is a pleasure.”
